Google's design previously featured a brown-colored pen. Not to be confused with ✒️ Black Nib or ?️ Fountain Pen, though their applications often overlap.
Pen was approved as part of Unicode 7.0 in 2014 under the name “Lower Left Ballpoint Pen” and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
