Samsung’s design previously featured a blue-and-white capsule with two round pills, one orange, the other white. Google and Microsoft’s designs previously featured blue in their capsules.
Pill was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
